Homonyms

Homonyms are words that sound the same but are spelled differently.

Here are some of the most common ones, and the tricks I use to keep them straight.

here, where, there All place-type words have "here".

they are, they're One is a contraction of the other.

mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs Possessives made out of pronouns don't get apostrophes.

I am, you are, he is, she is, it is, we are, you are, they are I'm, you're, he's, she's, it's, we're, you're, they're

the bear wears bearskin, wear out the bear, wares for sale.
